New Dementia Wing Opens at Pioneer Manor
Thanks to a $7.3 million investment on behalf of the McGuinty government, a new 64 bed dementia wing has opened at Pioneer Manor in Sudbury.

Gas Tax Funding
Ontario's Gas Tax program is getting more people out of their cars and onto public transit in Greater Sudbury. On April 30, 2010 $2.7 million was provided to Sudbury, bringing the total commitment since 2003 to more than $14 million.

Funding for Trades Training in Sudbury
The Government of Ontario is providing greater access to trades training and career opportunities in Greater Sudbury through an investment of $4 million at the Collège Boréal campus.

Dinosaurs at Science North
The Government of Ontario is supporting the promotion of a new exhibit at Science North called "Dinosaurs Unearthed." Funding is being provided through the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund, which helps not-for-profit culture and heritage organizations develop, promote and present unique events and exhibitions.

Supporting Crime Prevention in Greater Sudbury
The Government of Ontario is supporting a youth oriented, community based initiative that seeks to reduce and prevent crime in Greater Sudbury. Ontario's Safer and Vital Communities Grant program provided the John Howard Society with $20,000 to support their Sudbury Youth Rocks music program. The program's aim is to provide youth with a creative outlet to channel their passion and energy.

Surgical Program Opens
The new Surgical Service will feature many technological advancements. These include operating rooms that will become the first in Canada to use the latest technology in surgical lights, as well as several surgical suites dedicated to minimally invasive surgery, using laparoscopic technology for procedures that in the past required more invasive techniques. The Post-anesthetic Care Unit will also feature two six-room units that can be isolated to increase intensive care capacity if required.

Full Day Learning
Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci announced the Full Day Learning program for four and five year olds in Sudbury on January 12th, 2010. Approximately 35,000 students in 600 schools across the province will benefit from an integrated day of learning and activity when the program is implemented in September 2010.

January is Crime Stoppers Month
Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci was joined by Alex Williamson, President of the Crime Stoppers Association of Ontario and local dignitaries to officially mark January as Crime Stoppers Month. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit community based program that encourages people to call with information to help solve crimes. Ontario was also awarded an award of recognition by the international body of Crime Stoppers for partnering in the development of an anti-hate crime video.
